Renowned for his skill in delivering some of the best of Mallorcan cuisine over the last decade, Santi Taura’s efforts were rewarded at his DINS Restaurant (situated in El LLorenç Parc de la Mar), with a Michelin Star.
His new venture, the talk of the town and deservedly so, is COR Barra i Taula, an informal dining experience with the same culinary expertise and distinctly Mallorcan menu. Located adjacent to Mercat de l’Olivar you could not be more central, both in terms of location and proximity to the foodie heart of Palma.
Santi belongs to the generation of Mallorcan chefs who have taken Mediterranean cuisine to a new level, relying on handed-down family recipes, enriched with passion.
Hop on a stool at the industrial-style bar or choose to sit outside on the terrace overlooking the Mercat, cleverly offering cover in the winter months. There is also a calmer dining area on the first floor if you prefer a little quiet.
Santi’s tapas are the essence of Mallorca. The cerdo negro ( black pork ) sits perfectly alongside the lettuce romana salad of melon and red onions. Dive into a “Llonguet” de calamares – the bread roll indigenous to Palma with deep-fried squid, pulled pork, “coca de patata”, pico de gallo with pineapple or a “coca” of vegetables with smoked sardines. The spicy ceviche and fluffy potato omelette are just as moreish.
And to drink, be sure to wash this all down with their signature vermouth, made from prensal blanc wine, red fruits, orange, hibiscus and secret ingredients.
Don’t be afraid to ask the friendly and informed staff for their recommendations.
And then there’s something sweet. I challenge you to choose between the carrot cake with 3 milks or the hot chocolate casserole with peanut ice cream !
Calling all foodies, fulfil your guilty pleasure and dine out on the flavours of the island at this buzzy and fun eatery in the heart of Palma for authentic Mallorcan cuisine with a modern twist.
